The Travelling Diet

I must admit, the diet does put a major cramp in your style when traveling. We went to Montreal this weekend, and theres nothing worse when going to a fine restaurant and having to defend your green salad and side of asparagus and spinach order to the waitress. If looks could kill for not ordering a 12 oz steak and glass of wine - geesh! I actually felt fine ordering my water with lemon, diet Coke and meal, but when the waitress asked whether I was on a diabetic diet, she apologized that I couldnt eat their food. What a laugh...

It actually wasnt that hard. I packed my meat pre-cooked and pre-portioned and brought it to the hotel (which luckily had a refrigerator.) I also brought hard boiled eggs, some fruit, my crackers (breads) and water/Diet Coke which did me just fine. I just kept my vegetable portions for eating out. I didnt have to worry about a thing!

That was my first real test traveling on the diet. It was definitely easier than I thought it would be.

I endured Tim Hortons and had a Decaf coffee with nutrisweet... certainly not the same as my usual medium double-double with a Dutchie donut, but I think about the cream, sugar and fat and realize how the pounds packed on over the last 5 years.

However, when the family stopped off at McDonalds on the way home and I had to look at the french fries... it was hard. I resisted (of course!) but you really find out what your triggers and hot spots are.

Im so glad though, after 6 weeks, that Im down 26 lbs...on average 1 pound every 2 days. My double chin is now gone (whew!) and getting leaner. I not longer have the cracking feet/joints and just feel so much better. Swimming is great and just stretches the skin and joints too.

Overall - it just feels good to get healthy again.

More in a couple of weeks!
