Heading into the holidays

What a great feeling - I had four messages on my Facebook account this week alone from folks saying theyre reading my blog and looking to join the program.

Glad to see folks are stopping by!

Sit down - stay awhile. Ill pour you a glass of my lemon/water/Splenda mix and well chat.

Its been almost two months since my last entry, and wow, Im still 140 give or take! Today Im up to 144 - but I did have a few glasses of wine on the weekend at my husbands company Christmas party, and I did partake in the dessert table - not much, but a little nibble. However, with my lean and mean intake today, Ill be down to my fighting self tomorrow again.

So as Ive learned through maintenance, when you eat some sugar or some carbs (pasta, potatoes, corn and other yummy starches) go for a brisk walk or dance, or those evil doers will go straight to your fat cells.

My doctor at the Bernstein clinic confirmed that today as well, so beware in the Maintenance dance. Eat in moderation, and keep active if you want to balance your over-indulgences.

Im inspired by one of the ladies who contacted me on Facebook today though. As I warned her about starting the diet so close to Christmas - that shell perhaps be too tempted by the rich food and drink over the holidays - shes excited to start right away and change her lifestyle.

Good for her!! Thats the spirit if you want to achieve on the program.

Just knowing that if she starts now, shell be down a full 2-3 sizes by mid-January. Now thats motivation to start early on the endless weight loss New Years Resolution.

As for me - Im back on formal Maintenance as of two weeks ago and go weekly to the clinic for my single injection and weigh-in. Thats the great thing about the program. Even if you dont think you need it, they embrace you back if you want it. Theres no pressure, but if you wat the vitamins and support, theyre there to help. Works for me.

Im back to preparing my pre-weighed veggies and meat. I like the discipline and knowing what Im taking in. I naturally limit my fruits - apart from my morning smoothly and the odd applesauce, I dont crave fruits. But by process of elimination, I know now what my problem foods are:
  • Bread - in all forms...though we usually only have 14 grain and whole wheat, but the Raisin Bran muffins they sell in our office coffee shop are just so damn good...theyre my daily sugar doom, and likely a quarter of one would be my daily limit. Thats my resolution for tomorrow - no Marcellos Raisin Bran muffin...
  • Pasta - though I only have a 1/2 cup or 1 cup max, its a killer for me
  • Rice - again, not often or a lot, but it goes straight to my a$$
  • Wine - just substitute all mixed drinks, coolers, beer and spirits in here, and youve get the point
So, the holidays will be my testing ground. Not to mention my colleagues ongoing hockey or preschool fundraising efforts, with endless boxes of chocolates around. Geesh

My 2010 resolution?

To get back to 100% faithfulness to abide by Bernstein Maintenance, and not cheat on the program. Oh, and to use CalorieCount.com religiously again. Its been awhile.

While Im staying within the safe zone, it can be a challenge. Even with everything in moderation. But then - if I indulge one day - I severely restrict any sugars or fats the next day. It works - for me!

At my husbands office party, there were three women who were on Bernstein years ago and over time, gained all their weight back.

In 2010 and beyond, I resolve that I will not regain back the weight. So there.
