MEATFor meat, since you season them to taste with a range of spices, I will precut the meat (Breakfast 2 oz -Lunch 3 oz -Supper 2 oz) for my daily ration, cook them to taste, and put them in the fridge. Or, I pre-cut and put in micro steamer bag, and cook in when I need them. They stay fresher and more flavourful that way.
I was using Pataks Tandoori paste for a couple of weeks (because I love curry) but again, the salt retains water. I only use it a couple of times a week now. HOwever, you can use all the fresh garlic, spices, pepper, mustard, pre-approved ketchup, Kikoman soya sauce, etc., and make your own bbq sauces to rival any store bought stuff.
Ive also bought the M&M honey & garlic chicken and the M&M lemon & herb chicken. These are excellent and if precooked, stay really moist and flavourful. Their turkey breast is also good, and a single portion is good for two days. Great for slicing and putting on salads. Plus, the family loves them too, so I dont have to make separate meals.
For lean beef, I picked up the 6-pack of M&M filet mignon (removed the bacon for me) and when we bbqd on the weekend, I had my beef portion and bbq just like everyone else. For a beef alternative (that you can enjoy more often) I picked up the Bison raclette meat at IGA and we had a raclette - I just had to use the PAM on the raclette - and with the spices I usually use, it was great. I didnt miss a thing.
I also boil a lot of eggs for mornings, or use the Naturegg (Original) egg whites for omelettes, etc. With veggies, capers, pepper and basil, its really good. I also put 3 egg whites in a glass bowl, nuke it for 3 mins, top with recommended salsa for a morning protein. Thats like a Mexican omelette. Also, put a slice of Kraft fat free cheddar slice on it and its even yummier. However, Ill only use cheese about once a month. Youc an use it up to twice a week, but I just choose not to.
I also make egg salad with the allowed mayonnaise, celery, onion, etc., and with crackers, its a great lunch dish.
Another good egg white omelette recipe is spinach, tomatoes (or other additional veggies) with dill and freshly cracked pepper. YUM! As an extra Sunday morning bonus, Ill add a slice of Kraft Fat Free cheddar cheese slice, which adds some special cheesy flavour to it. Even my health-conscious niece gave it a two thumbs up!
My favourite lately is the Loblaws Presidents Choice Honey & Maple Turkey breast cold cuts. There is 175 g in a pack, and youre allowed 200g for your 2 protein portions per day, which is quite a lot of meat. I get the best fat burning with it. Youre technically only supposed to use it once a week, but I use it more often than that for ease and convenience. The only problem again is that its high in sodium, so retains water.
The nurses always recommend to stick to fresh meat that are non-processed. They are heavier and keep your belly feeling fuller, but require more prep time.
