Itchy scratchy flaky

The Itchy & Scratchy ShowImage via Wikipedia

I thought it interesting this morning as I had my shower, that I havent been dry and itchy as I had been in the first month on the diet.

As the program "bible" (the diet manual) explains, you will get dry skin.

That was an understatement!

I mean its bound to happen. The fats are drawn from your skin and none is being replinished through the diet. Theres going to be some consequence. However, I hadnt used cream like this since I lived in the Arctic. I was having flashbacks of slathering endless amounts of Body Shop Shea Butter Body Butter to recoup from ice cold blizzard conditions.

After the first two weeks on the diet, I had fashioned pencil and crayon sketches of a personal hip holster for my husband to fashion for me in his woodworking workshop. I needed a permanent supply of cream to keep my skin moisturized.

Every night in front of the t.v., I became the star of my own personal Itchy and Scratchy show: a full hour drama of applying cream to all parts of my body. Not for family viewing, I can tell you...

Now, you cant just use any cream on the diet. Oh no...

Just as with the food lists, there are only certain products you can use. So be prepared to scrutinize your bathroom medicine cabinet and purge your usual brands.

Aveda, Body Shop - whatever youre used to using - get rid of it.

As the nurses and doctors explain, the chemicals, fats and processed contents are absorbed into your system and can affect your ketosis (stop your fat burning) and/or cause weight gain.

Geez - even when you think youre buying all natural products from all the intensive marketing, you may be wrong!

You can use hypo-allergenic products for your skin and body. The recommended "clean" products though are plain old baby oil and Vaseline - either the white petroleum gelly or creme. However, as long as what youre using is hypo-allergenic, you should be fine.

After a few weeks of applying liberally the gelly, I was tied of feeling like I was going to slip out of my sheets. I purchased the Vaseline Intensive Rescue Hand Cream, and used up the baby oil I still had left from my toddlers baby days.

Were into July now, and my skin is no longer dry as it was in the early days of the diet. This is likely due to the changing season from spring to summer. We are having warmer days with bouts of humidity, as is the nature of our southeastern Ontario summers. So as I dry off from the shower, a little smearing of baby oil is sufficient these days.

The good thing about the process though, is that if you werent an avid cream user, it forces you to support your skin as your body starts to shrink. You need to help the elasticity of your skin so it shrinks with your new body.

So slather up folks! Just lay off the Body Shop Body Butter for awhile...
